The YMCA Newcomer Volunteer Network is a dedicated group of current and alumni volunteers from more than 30 countries who have come together to share their experiences, to learn from one another and to support each other in their professional and personal goals. The Network provides:
• Meaningful Canadian work experience in a variety of roles
• Insight into the Canadian workplace environment
• Knowledge and understanding of Canadian culture and society
• Connections to other newcomers with similar educational and professional credentials and alumni volunteers who have found employment
• Involvement in various activities and events within the YMCA and externally with other organizations
• A chance to build friendships with other recent and long-term immigrants from different cultures, faiths, ages and nationalities
• Guidance for newly arrived newcomer volunteers from alumni volunteers on subjects such as language, housing, public transportation, job search and more
Network members also act as ambassadors of the organization by referring other newcomers to services offered through the YMCA.
Students and Canadians
Bridging newcomers with Canadians is an essential part of the integration process into Canadian society. Newcomers can expose Canadians to different cultures and traditions while proficient English-speakers can offer valuable expertise, insight and support to clients and to the Newcomer Volunteer Network.
