Host Program

CultureLink’s HOST Program provides friendship matches for newcomer individuals and families. The program helps newcomers adjust to a new life by matching them with trained volunteers from the community.

Matches are made based upon gender, age and residential location. The match is expected to meet regularly for approximately 2 hours a week for a minimum of six months.

Newcomers have the opportunity to practice speaking English, adjust sooner and more easily to their new community, learn about Canadian life, better cope with the stresses of moving to a new country, make friends and have fun.

Volunteers have the opportunity to welcome and assist a newcomer in their settling process, form a rewarding friendship, pursue a career in teaching or social services, gain a better understanding of Canada’s evolving multicultural make-up and learn about other countries, cultures and languages. Please contact Intake for Volunteer Orientation and Training information.
