On February 21st, Toronto City Hall reaffirmed its promise to providing services to residents without full immigration status. We will continue to build a Solidarity City where communities work together to ensure justice and dignity for all residents. The history of Access Without Fear in Toronto is a long one and on May Day let us march to celebrate our victories and commit to continued struggle.

The Ministry of Education provides additional funding to school boards to support students who study English as a second language and students living in poverty. However, the Toronto District School Board, like many Boards across the Province, uses much of this funding on other purposes. Join us in launching a campaign to get the TDSB to spend these funds on programs and supports that provide equitable learning opportunities for our City’s most underserved students!

The Toronto North LIP Settlement, Language, and Orientation work-group will be holding an information session regarding the new Coordinated Language Assessment and Referral System (CLARS). CIC and MCI have launched a pilot project to test the benefits of a harmonized approach to language assessment and referral for newcomers. Representatives from CIC and MCI will be on hand to help explore the new model of assessment and referrals and its implementation in Toronto.

The Summer Course on Refugee and Forced Migration Issues is an internationally acclaimed seven-day non credit course for academic and field-based practitioners working in the area of forced migration. The course is offered by the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University.
